China itinerary ideas
The best China itinerary is not simply the longest list of stops. It is a route with the right order, workable travel days, and enough space for each place to make sense.
Route length
A first trip usually works best with 10 to 14 days. That gives enough time for Beijing, another cultural region, a landscape stop, and a final city without turning every day into a transfer.
Good for a focused first route or one region plus a major gateway city.
Enough room for classic highlights with a landscape or cultural extension.
Better for slower travel, families, photography, or multiple long-distance regions.
Route logic
China rewards contrast: imperial north and modern coast, highland villages and ancient capitals, river landscapes and city kitchens. A focused route often feels richer than a crowded one.
The route should be easy to explain in one sentence. If it is not, it probably needs fewer stops or a clearer travel theme.
